skoda felicia temperature

Featured Replies

hi all

i have Felicia 97 from 1 month ago i have damage radiator and i replace it

with one brand new now in the morning and night cat temp. its between 70 and 80

in rush hour ( from 1pm to 7pm) it's got crazy it's hold 90 and don't come down when i am

in idle as long as i running with my car heat up when stopped it's going down

plz help me

(fan new and radiator new and fan thermostat on 90 and off 80)

today Egypt weather 42c

my best regards

If you have the old thermostat, try it, you may have the wrong one, they do two.

The felly is prone to overheating in traffic and you live in a very hot country; adding a good quality coolant/antifreeze helps (I know, antifreeze in Egypt!!); sounds stupid, but it helps with cooling in the summer as well as stopping it from freezing in the winter.

what it's name and what is antifreeze stuff?

Antifreeze is mixed in with the water in the cooling system. It has two functions - firstly to stop the water freezing, and secondly to reduce corrosion of aluminium components. But adding antifreeze makes the cooling system less efficient.

Are you sure you have no airlocks in the system? You can test this by removing the temperature sender from the housing - water should come out.

G12++ is probably the best coolant to put in. There should be recommendations on the dilution level to use in warm countries. The other feature of coolant/anti-freeze is it increases the boiling point of the mixture so it doesn't boil up so easily (which happens more readily under pressure I think).

No, the opposite happens - boiling point increases with increased pressure, hence cars boiling more easily if the cap can't maintain pressure, or if you leave it off.

anewman is right, antifreeze HELPS cooling.

How?

more efficient at transferring heat

No it's not, water has a higher SHC than antifreeze.

That's true, but antifreeze has a higher thermal transfer co-efficient to balance against the lower Specific Heat Capacity.

[meanwhile, back at the point]

I'd try maybe 25% mix (1 part antifreeze to 3 of de-ionised water) using VAG G12+, and expect a normal running temperature of about 90deg indicated on the gauge. Also, if the car has a "conventional" radiator cap (pressed sheet metal, with a rubber ring and a spring on the underside. May not be on the radiator, but on the expansion bottle), and either the ring is worn (bent into a U shape on the reservoir top, or the cap itself is rusty, replace that.

Got any figures to back that up? Antifreeze has a lower SHC and lower conductivity than water. It makes the cooling system less efficient. Granted there are other properties to take into account, mostly anti-corrosive given Egypt's climate.

This -is- the point. If Niledragon has a car that's overheating, putting antifreeze in it won't help. PLus if he has to fault-find the cooling system then he'll be wasting money if he needs to refill the system several times during that process.

Felicias don't have a cap like that. And generally cap leaks are easy to spot.

yesterday i toke off air condition condenser and i found it broken and rusty

i'll gave it try today bray for me????

Back at you. You're making the statement that not only does antifreeze have a lower HTC than pure water, but also that it has a lower HTC than a 25% to 50% mixture of the 2. And somehow expecting that I should believe you when you clearly don't believe me.

You can refill a cooling system with the coolant you drained out of it. It's not like lubricating oil or brake fluid.

Removing it may well help the overheating problem, by removing an obstruction from in front of the radiator (typical installation, Felly may differ).

Well, let's take a look at some figures, shall we?

SHC:

Water: 4.184 KJ/KgK

Antifreeze: 2.38 KJ/KgK

Round 1 to water. By no small margin. Antifreeze scores a mere 56% of water's ability to carry heat energy for the same rise in temperature.

Water: Thermal Conductivity: 0.67 W/m K

Antifreeze: 0.25 W/m K

Round 2 to water. This time Antifreeze can only manage 37% of water's score.

It's not about belief, it's about facts. Why on earth would a 25% or 50% mixture of the two suddenly display some synergistic result which offsets Antifreeze's lower performance? (clue: it wouldn't)

Yes, of course you can, if you drain it all out without spilling any, into a vessel which is perfectly clean and will not introduce any foreign matter into the system when it gets refilled. But this is unlikely to happen in the real world.

Do you actually know anything about how a Felicia is built? Many's been the time that you've given completely irrelevant advice (such as changing the plug leads on an MPi felicia, or suggesting replacing the cambelt on same) due to not actually knowing the car in question. Hardly helpful for people who are (a) struggling to fix their cars and coming for advice and (B) when English isn't their first language.
