Clocks staying on with no ignition...

Featured Replies

Do the digital displays on the clocks stay on when the ignition is turned off? I cant remember whether they do or not, just that the battery keeps going flat on the car and the only thing that i can think of is because they should go off?

thanks!

The clock remains, that is normal behaviour.

an LCD display will draw next to nothing (even my digital watch with a little button battery in it last for years), so therefore a car with a honking great battery will power an LCD display for virtually ever.

Thanks for the swift reply! :) So the clock and the odometer display both stay on with the ignition off.

Must be a duff battery then!.

The battery could be faulty,or the alternator is not charging enough, or something is draining the battery.

When the motor is running you should have over 14 volts across the battery terminals.

Also look at the alternator pulley, which can be changed without replacing the whole alternator

Get battery tested, might be on its last legs??

Does the alarm work properly, the doors lock and open correctly and the interior lights work as expected?

A faulty micro-switch on the drivers door can leave the convenience system draining the battery when the doors are locked.

Search on this forum, there are many threads.

If you you have a dc ammeter, you can check the current drain of the battery with everything off. You can pick one up in Maplins and other places that will read up to 10A , for just a few pounds.
