New noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just had new EBC disk's and pads fitted by a garage who I have never had a problem with. When I am reversing and then break to slow or stop I get a knock, Only one but it dosent do it when I brake going forward. Any ideas???? :smirk:

Common flaw with the rear disc/pad setup used by VAG.

Often called moo-ing.

You may need a pair of caliper return springs. These pull the pads away from the disc surface...

I believe they are a vw part from a sharan of all things...

Do a search on this topic and you'll find out more.

When the new brakes were fitted did the fitter use any copper slip on the rear of the pads?

I understand this can reduce the noise a bit....

Not a problem, it's called pad knock. When you reverse the pads move back slightly in the caliper frame. Garage probably gave the brakes a good clean. It will stop once the brake dust build up a bit on the carrier.

That sounds bang on come to think of it, Its only on the fron drivers side it does it on. Thank you!!!!!

Brake pads slapping up and down if braking in reverse or forward motion.

Packed my front brake pads out (not recommended) by placing thin strip of metal over top lug of brake pad.

Solved problem immediately, ( but to repeat) not recommended.

Buying and fitting new brake squeal shims may/could eliminate slap??
