free download on Ross tech

Depending on quite what cable you have, something from the archive might help

vag-com archive

did the cable come with a disk? they usually have the drivers and a copy of the freeware version of vagcom

theres a download link on the link you posted

theres a download link on the link you posted

i know mate but it wont work

Follow my link. It says for 409.1 or lower.... so grab an old version.

did you run the the driver install then set up the USB to COM wiht the cable plugged into the car and the ignition turned on? when I first did mine I installed the drivers then the cable only got detected when it was plugged into the car (I get a little blue light on the connector when it is powered from the car not the laptop) I then set it to connect to COM3 via the USB to Com connector settings in device manager then the VAGCOM software gets set to use COM port that you have linked the cable to. and you should be good to go. If you have any problems PM your number and I can talk you through it. HTH

which software shall i download? and im running windows 7

let us know how you get on as i need a cable myself and wondering if this can do all teh common functions i'm likely to need

Download the .rar package from the sellers site and unpack the files (you can use winrar or 7zip to unpack the files), then run the driver setup, you will then need to plug the cable into the port of the car and turn ignition on( not start the car just ignition on), then plug the usb end into your laptop and the cable should be detected by windows (as you are using windows 7 you may have issues unless it is 32bit version, not sure if you will be able to get it to work in the XPVM?). Once the cable is detected you will then need to make sure that the USB to COM driver in devices is set to map from USB to either COM2 or COM3 as these are the ports that VAGCOM reads from. once you have set the port you can then run VAGCOM (409.1 version which you can use from the rar file or download from the Ross tech link provided earlier) part of the start up for VAGCOM will involve setting the Port that the cable is on, this will be the COM number assigned earlier to the USB cable. once this is done you can save the config and then your cable should work.

STSKODA, with an unlicenced shareware version (409.1 being the latest) you can read codes and clear them but the descriptions only give limited info, however you can then look up the full description on the Ross tech wiki so not a big problem. The biggest limitation with out a licence is you are only able to log certain blocks. You can however buy a licence from Ross tech that will allow more access for $99 last time I looked so still better value than haveing codes read and cleared by dealers.
