Beware - optically distorted replacement windscreens

Featured Replies

It's like driving across a golf course in places at the moment!

You keep back from a truck to save catching the ones they throw up,

then one comes from the opposite direction.

Frankly I'm surprised there's any paint left on my car.

talking of potholes and stones i got hit again a week after getting the second windscreen. Luckily/unluckily it hit the front wing and the A pillar and left two big scratches. Really need to get around to getting a new dr colorchip paint pack.

I spoke to autoglass this morning about the second faulty screen. they are going to order me a skoda dealer screen as theyve now tried both types of pilkington glass they supply which have both had faults. They were really good on the phone too so nothing but good service from them up to now :)

Well, the car has finally gone into National Windscreens to get an orignal Skoda screen fitted. I had a look at the screen before it went in and it seemed OK. I'll report back the conclusion later...

ive just had my new skoda window fitted today. havent been out in the car yet but it looked ok from sitting in the drivers seat so fingers crosse!

interestingly i did notice that with the pilkingtons windows the ticket holder was about 0.5cm away fro the screen so wouldnt hold tickets. With the dealer window now fitted the ticket holder is back tight against the screen

I've picked up the car, and thank goodness it's absolutely fine now. As soon as I sat in the driver's seat I could see that it was better. It certainly doesn't have the band along the bottom edge of the screen, and actually it just seems clearer all over. It isn't made by Pilkington. It's marked up as 'Splintex'.

So, the end of a rather long and unforunate experience for me. I hope this post has saved a few other people from the same experience.

A final word about National Windscreens in Newport. They couldn't have been more helpful throughout.

I find it hard to believe that the same manufacturer would make two qualities of screen - one for Skoda and another for the aftermarket. Why would they do that? Money saving? Can't really see how...

Lol! Glad its sorted....

glad its fixed ok stevej. mines also great. no six inch wide vari-focal glasses area and clear edges too.

Glad yours is sorted too. Let's try to steer clear of stones in future!
