Bonnet lever issue

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I went to top up screenwash and the lever to release the bonnet popped as normal but the bonnet did NOT release.

Now the lever just pulls with slack without the 'pop'. The cable remains intact and the bonnet appears to be firmly closed, it never moved following pop.

Any advice welcome,

Many thanks

You may have stretched the cable over time, it may need replacing, you need the bonnet open first though.

Kneel down driver side, unscrew the handle pull from the sidewall of the footwell, the cable has a ball on the end fitted into a recess in the handle, rotate and take off handle, they carefully with some pliers you should (if you are careful and a bit lucky) be able to pull the cable by the ball on the end in some pliers and pull more than the lever will allow thus releasing the bonnet.....

I'd check for loose screws first

The same thing happened to me recently, and I found a screw in the footwell

The bonnet level is secured with two screws, one of which had worked loose. Screwed back in position, and the bonnet now opens fine
