Haynes Manual For Octavia?

Featured Replies

Fellow Briskodans,

Is there a Haynes manual or similar available for the Octy.

I will be doing a stereo install soon and wanted to know which bits to take off without damage etc.

Anyone know??

Last time I checked the Haynes website, they didn't do manuals for any of the more 'modern' Skodas...

Funky J,

haven't seen a manual at Halfords; always check it out when I go as it's always handy to have one.

Biggest tip I can give you for stereo install is to remove the glovebox; this allows you to pull wires out of way when putting in HU. Also after removing screws (6 of them) holding the gloxbox) carefully remove connector to glovebox interior light. A few Briskodians have had a jolly time trying to figure out how to put the light back together again.:D

Front speakers grill just prise out; IIRC there a small notch in the bottom right hand corner to allow a small screw driver. Just take your time so at not to mark the surround.

There was a long thread regarding changing speakers but i don't think it was moved to the ICE forum; it's was in the General Forum. Particular good for changing the rear speakers.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Quote about the availability of Octavia and Fabia manuals copied straight from Haynes' website:

We have no plans to publish manuals for this vehicle at this time. This may be because the model range has not sold in sufficient numbers and we can't consider doing a manual until there is enough of a particular model on the road for us to be sure of covering our costs.

Anyone else find this strange?

Given that every taxi firm in the country seems to run Octavia's these days, you'd think there would be enough on the road for Haynes to do a manual.

Cheers chaps,

I think we'll be going into uncharted territory with the stereo install we're planning!! Ta for the advice Adrian, I'll definitely keep that handy when we're doing it!

I suppose it is strange as the Octavia's been out about 6 years

and is quite common, especially among cheapskates who would

want to avoid dealer servicing... ;)

Do taxi driver's do their own servicing?

Rob.

I did consider buying a Haynes manual for the Golf on the assumption that the mechanicals and method of construction are very similar. However the most up-top-date manual they do is for the VW Golf and Bora Petrol and Diesel (98-00) R to W. It covers the 1.8T engine, but presumably not VVT or DBW. Details are here if anyone is interested. I haven't been able to have a look at one to see if its worth buying since all the copies I have seen have been shrink-wrapped to maintain freshness.

No, that's to stop you drooling over the centrefold while you're in the shop!

Ooops, sorry, I think I'm in the wrong joke...

Phil:D

That said...just how hard is it to write a Haynes manual?

I reckon if a few people got their heads together from here it wouldn't take much.

And no, that's not me volunteering... :D
