Retro Badging..

Featured Replies

So! I received the badge today and seeing as imo paid lots for the badge I'd try really hard to not hack it to pieces.. WELL.. after 30 mins of very delicate dremelling my impatient personality kicked in....

Hacked lots off the badge and resulted in this.. :giggle:

You forgot to blur the number plate.

I like those though, not sure how they would look on other colours, but black/ silver cars suit them well.

Haha, corrected now thanks

I think the badge is quite a neutral colour (silver and black) so I would assume it would look be alright on most colours, perhaps yellow is a little difficult to pull off maybe..? I like the fact that its got the 3D-ness to it.

Edit: (cant write to save my life today)

Lol, nah theres no secret, just the old style original Skoda badge, no idea which model its from, I just picked it up on ebay. It seems quite rare in uk apparently.. But im sure in cech republic there's loads dotted around

You outbid my sorry butt on it :D

Looks almost as cool as it would have on my car. ;)

Well done on the mod though, it looks just as I had imagined...

Good job

Oops :giggle: my bad, you should've said something..! :D

tb fair I was expecting it to be ~£4 Someone pushed it up to £8! :p I didn't like the newer black and white version nor could I think of any designs for PastyBoy to create. I had no other options really..

If I give you the dimensions or detailed picture of the badge you could go to Pastyboy (if he still does them) and recreate another (in 3D gel).

It's from a Favorit MkII front grille (the later one with the badge in the centre and vents either side). There is highly unlikely to be any stock around in dealers anymore, and remember that second hand ones on cars will have been out in the open for at least 15 years. There is a big round plastic bit at the back of it with sort of two wings, which as mentioned in the first post would need to be dremelled off. I have an old worn one but have had no success in painting it up as I seem to keep going over the edges. When I get a chance will redouble my efforts as it looks like it fits very well.

Yup, what I did was hack the wings, sanded/snapped the outer black rim off and cut a hole in the grill (as the insert is not deep enough for the badge). Few more steps than I expected but least its done now.

As for repainting, you could try some fine masking tape work prior spray paint or stick some blue-tack in the bits you cant reach :D

I like that

Agreed, that looks quite effective. Very nice esp. on the black :)

Nice mod mate :)

Good effort and a good find on the badge.

I've been sporting one for years B)

Indeed I do

or

the original ones do look mint but as stated they are awfully hard to track down

Wonder what one of the ones from the 1st post would look like just completely matt black on a matt black grille insert?

Oops :giggle: my bad, you should've said something..! :D

Hahaha, Not really bothered mate. That's ebay for you.

8 quid was my limit.... :D

I'm happy with my badges as they are now... Just need to get another engine cover badge for the rear :p

Musroom mushroom......

No seriously they look great! Gonna have to head down to my local scrappy & see If I can find one!

Hey man, one of your pictures gave me an idea so I hope you don't mind, but I nicked it and photoshopped it.

Might have a go at the all matt black later.. but for now, have a smoothing idea..

If ya want me to take this down, just pm me... And sorry to crash your thread but thought it was best as it's done on your cars picture,

Taa

Rob.

If you can find a later Favorit in a scrap yard (M or N reg I think) they have a rather nice rear badge on the tailgate, black and chrome with plastic dome type thing. Other models had a big plastic one more like the front one but I think most people wouldn't like to put one of those on a newer model (plastic domed one nicer). If I try and remember will post a pic of both when I next get my hands on them, as they're currently over 200 miles away :o:)

Yeah will be good to see the pics sometime. I dont tend to have luck at the scrappys around here, they seem to look at me as if Im asking things off an imported car or something.. :wonder:

NP Rob., looks ok, bit too much effort for me though! I also have next to no clue on smoothing things out without using dremel

  • 1 month later...

Promised a pic of those Favorit rear badges a while back - now I've remembered and taken the pic here it is. Older one on left (approx 1994) newer one with plastic dome and chrome effect on right (approx 1995). Once I have got some other things done (including with the car) might stick the domed one on the back in place of the green one.

Oh, a tip for getting the crud off.. instead of using all these lighter fluid, etc etc.. use a decent rubber (eraser)! cleans right off ;)

off topic - these are v tasty wheels.. do they exist in a 17" at a cost effective price?

Comments/suggestions welcome as always

That badge looks sweet! I want one! (two) :D
