How do i clean the ERG valve?

Featured Replies

I want to clean the valve, but wonder if the millers type of fuel aditives can help? I dont want to remove it, nor go down the erd delete route. Halfords sell a decoke spray, is this what i need?

Help?

Thanks

Dan

exhaust gunk is nasty stuff and the only real way to clean it up right is to remove the EGR & inlet manifold, split the two, and scrape out what you can first before using something like solvent cleaner to remove the soot, etc.

Is that a straight foreward job to remove the erg value? What are these decoke products like, or are they a waste of money?

as devon says to to a thorough job remove both but most just remove the egr valve, odd bolt bit fiddly re access but fairly straightforward .then scrape out thick deposits and clean rest with carb cleaner or similar.

Just 3 allen key bolts holds the EGR onto the inlet manifold but I would recommend removing and cleaning that as well. You'd only be doing half a job really, doing the EGR alone, as the inlet would still be cacked up a bit and hindering performance (by restricting air transit)

egr removal

not actually a vrs but similar procedure.
