Rear wiper not working

Featured Replies

Hi,

As title suggests, my rear wiper has stopped working. Plenty water coming out the nozzle just no wipe. Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong or how to sort. Car is a 56 plate . Any help please.

The motors are prone to failure, mine got replaced a few months ago...although mine was working intermittantely.

Just make sue boot lid is closed...won't work if it's open

Thanks,I had a play about at the weekend, all seems to be ok with boot switch and connections, motor started to work for a few wipes then stopped again. Me thinks a new motor could be in order. Found a few other posts about similar problems, seems to be a comon fault.

Anybody know how much for a new motor and a part number?

Many thanks RC

Don't quote me on the numbers as I got them in Ireland, also for an RS...assume all Mk2's are the same

Motor 1Z5955711A about €105

Gasket 1J0955875 about €6

Water Pipe fitting 1Z5955758 about €2

I replaced the rubber gasket that the motor goes through (thought it slightly leaked). I broken the water pipe fitting so also replaced it.

Mine was the connectors that had corroded under the cd stacker in the boot, the washer hose came adrift and after that was fixed moisture must have been in the connection and caused the wipers to fail, a simple fix. Regards Monkster.

Had my rear wiper motor replaced in my vRS LE when it was 11 months old as it was stopping when on for 5 mins or more, then restarting when re-set. I assumed it was a loose connection but the dealer assured me it was the motor (as has been said it appears to be a common problem), and I guess he was right cos it's been fine since.

Part no on my invoice is S1Z5955711A and it would have been £45.47 plus £15 labour (at Simpsons, Preston) had it not been free under warranty...

The washer water can leak past the seal inside of the wiper worm drive and prevent the parking switches etc from working. I dismantled mine and cleaned the switch unit underneath the worm drive.
