Greenline personal best so far....

Featured Replies

A few weeks ago I managed to achieve 86.9mpg in the Greenline on a 53 mile run from my home in Bournemouth to my parents house near Devizes and I was kinda chuffed with it. I had another try today when I popped up for dinner and to pick up my head lamp protectors which had been ordered at Turners near by.

To even out the up hill run from the coast I took today's figure from the return trip of 106 miles.

I'm suppose to be flying to Gran Canaria tomorrow but news of ash is coming in so my plan B is just to fill with diesel, cross the channel and head down to Spain if I'm grounded. Who knows.....

Thats an impressive mpg. Can I ask what speed you were doing on the fast roads ? Was this mostly in 5th ?

Best I get is about 71mpg on a 100 mile round trip. Mostly fast dual carriageway and I am doing 75 (indicated)

Probably get less now that I am hauling around a spare wheel :D

Its mostly A roads with speeds up to 55-60, but often less because of the traffic and 30 through the urban areas. I notice the difference when the car has the climate control off with the mpg, but I have the digital one and it has a really annoying "OFF" on the screen when not in use, looks very out of place and bugs me! The electronic accelerator though is slightly annoying when on the very lightest of pressure almost as if it is unsure whether to deliver fuel or not with odd very mild jerks, another mm or so and its fine, but its getting the feel right to where the engine is just starting to deliver fuel and when you use it which makes all the difference I find. Gears : 5th generally 40mph and above, around town 30ish 3rd or 4th, but if it labours it uses more fuel so sometimes 3rd around town will deliver 100 mpg. On a flat road ticking along 1500rpm then its flickering away from 95mpg up to 170mpg depending on, well me I guess !

I know what you mean but I find its mainly on downhill sections. The fuel suddenly lets off . I wonder if its because the pedal is a bit like a manual cruise control. If the car exceeds the speed selected with your foot it cuts off the fuel.

I dont think I have the patience to be truly an economic driver. I do notice that I get better mpg in the towny bits......sort of opposite what you normally get with a car. Mines also not really run in yet, only just over 2000 miles

Mine has 'manual' aircon. No annoying lights. Just the annoying beep of the temp reading as I go in and out of 4 degree zones.......stupid thing.

Think of the horrendous power drain you are experiencing with the aircon off light on all the time......

Beeping? I think I like the LCD now :-)

Think they mean the beeping, when the external temp drops below 4 degrees... this hapens on the climatronic, too, to warn of black ice/slippery roads!

With the off light, though, just turn down til the fan goes off but off has not been selected... no fan speed, no light! ALSO, to turn a/c off, press the economy button... That turns the chilled air off, just giving you normal externally cooled air, like a car with no a/c.

To be clear to others with the boring old bog standard climatic.... The off light isn't a real light, just an lcd sighn saying "OFF", as with any of the other functions. They are all digital LCD thingamijigs! B)

I wonder how epic on fuel the new Greenline 1.2CR would be on a run.

Impressive figures!

I don't know, I'd quite like to have a go in one. I haven't see any of the new Polo Bluemotion on the road yet around here so perhaps its a bit limp, perhaps a dealer wants to let me loose in a new Greenline for a promo when they get one!?

I tried various ways of driving my Greenline as I do a regular 100 mile round trip combining fast dual carriageway towns and quickish A roads. Usually I get around 66 to 68 mpg.

I trawled the net and Briskoda for info on how these PD engines work and the main theme was to keep the engine in its max torque band for best efficiency. Well, the Greenline puts out its max torque between 1800 and 2200 and the turbo really only kicks in after 1500 rpm. So with this in mind I endeavoured to drive keeping the engine in this region. This was actually a more pleasant experience as the engine is much smoother and quieter when above about 1750. Even 2000 rpm in towns in third gear was not unpleasant at all. Well the upshot of all this to my surprise was an mpg of between 72 and 74 over a few days. I wasnt hanging about either and kept with the traffic at all times keeping close to speed limits.

I am now changing to this method of driving as it is certainly better on my eardrums, my pocket money and I suspect is better for the car than pootling around at really low rpm,s.

Maybe I should take out my new spare wheel.........push it up a bit. Yeah right :smirk:

These are very good results. I am soon to get a Motability car so one of the Greenlines might suit me or a Golf.

I'll be going to the Pod tomorrow in eco-mode. Skinny rear wheels pumped up hard, and shall pump the fronts up a bit too. Also going quite light weight, so hoping for a real 60mpg. :)

Will not be getting 60mpg down the 1/4 mile though :D

West Sussex to the depths of Cornwall and back....fully loaded back down nearly to the axles. Approx 450 miles mixture of dual carriageway, towns, lots of hills. Cornish silly lanes with much reversing to let the tractor go pass.

70.3 mpg B)
