Featured Replies

hi,

i have a 1999 felicia 1.3 LXi and yesterday the throttle cable snapped(at the hook on the pedal) and i cant find a replacement anywhere.ive been to all my local auto factors but they dont stock them as they are an uncommon part.As a last resort i went to my local skoda dealer but they havnt got one either and they said that they are on back order and will take weeks to come.

im completely stuck as i cannot get to work and im suposed too be going on holliday on friday with the grandchildren but its all up the in air now due to this.

is there any other car make throttle cable that would fit my falicia? i know that in some bases that other car part fit other makes of car.

can anybody help a desperate, desperate car owner

thanks for your reply.i managed to track one down from an online parts shop and for a very good price.

i cant believe how hards its been trying to get hold of what is a simple part.i must of rung 20 shops, dealers and scrap yards.

to be honest, it's very unusual for a throttle cable to break!!

yes thats what skoda said and so did everybody else come to think of it.i think it may of been a defect as it snapped right above the hook that attaches to the pedal.from the looks of it i think it may of been crimped on too hard because its a clean cut.

i did get accused a few times during my quest of the mystical throttle cable of maybe being heavy footed which caused it to snap but thats far from the truth,if i pressed any lighter i wouldnt go anywhere

ah the fond memories :giggle: i remember being stuck 200 miles from home with a broken throttle cable, in the end the only thing i could find to get me rolling again was a mountain bike brake cable from a cycle shop... ever since then i've always kept a spare throttle and clutch cable in the car :giggle:

its not that uncommon though, my brother has had one break on him with his 1.6 felicia. He sourced his from our local dealer as they had one in stock.

I've seen quite a few snapped Felicia throttle cables. The dealer will have quite a few types listed, depending on right/left hand drive, injection type and whether the car has power steering or air conditioning.

And something else that's always amazed me ( and my son in law ,who's a keen biker diy man) -bike ( as in push/mountain etc) cables are in the main as heavy as car/bike ones -yet , look at the price differential .

Ah -broken throttle cable -fond memories of one breaking on a PO van in the highlands in the evening ,in the days when you relied on the garage coming out ( or in my case NOT ) to help you out . My cure was to find fast idle screw on Carb and tweak it to give some revs and use gears to get me home .(Bloke in charge was not amused when I told him I used choke to slow engine down for corners ).
