Coachwork repair. What to check?

Featured Replies

Car got badly scratched by a lorry a few weeks ago. Driver admitted fault at the scene and the car has been taken away to be repaired.

Got a phone call yesterday from the coachworks that the car was ready and could it be brought back. I took a flexi afternoon and the car was supposed to be delivered between 3-4pm.

3:45pm the coachworks phones to say there is a problem, the MD isn't happy with some part of the repair and the car won't be ready until later.

1) I'm pretty p|ssed at taking an afternoon off and not being told until the last minute that they're not coming

2) WTF have they cocked up?

So what to check when the car is delivered finally?

I suppose I'm checking for over-spray, colour matching, bubbles, runs and foreign bodies stuck in the paint.

Anything else to look for? Any particular way to look for it?

It wasn't a major bodyshop repair, just cosmetic damage to two doors, indicator lens and a scratched alloy.

Obvious points are as you list, plus panel gaps, and electrics in relevant doors (including all the switches).

Yes , don't look head on look from back along car to see if panels colour match from different angles. Annoying they told you last minute, but better to wait till it is right. Hope it is ok when you pick up
