EGR pipe removal

Featured Replies

I tried yesterday to remove the little black pipe going to the egr valve and block it up, to try to run the car without the egr valve workin to see if i noticed any difference in performance. I have read that the warning light is supposed to appear when the pipe is removed but nothing came up on the dash. I must have drove it about 10 mins up the motorway and back and still nothing came up on the dash is this normal?? The car did seem a bit more responsive, but was making a ticking noise when it was idling?

Try driving at a constant speed with the revs between 1700 - 2700 for a good few miles, I recently removed my EGR and it took about 30 miles before the light appeared. I have also noticed the ticking noise after removing the EGR not sure what that is yet.

it takes while for the ecu to register that the maf sensor isnt registering that the egr valve is opening...

cant see how a ticking noise appears as all you doin is stopping the plunger in the egr valve from lifting.

So if you carry out this mod, does it mean the warning light is always on, or is there something else you can do to get rid of it? Been reading various posts on the subject and not sure if is worth it?

Personally I don't feel that there is 'better response' in fact I feel its quite the opposite (except when you fully boot it), yes it does throw the CEL light on and to get rid of it one would need to get it mapped out. I think the most beneficial point is that it doesn't throw soot/exhaust fumes back into the engine.

P.S. its reversible for MOT/services.
