Water collecting under the battery

Featured Replies

I've tried seraching on this and found loads about the known water ingress problem but can't find anything that specifically answers my question.

I've noticed that I have a fairly large amount of water that has collected under the battery, at least a couple of litres worth. Is there a drain underneath the battery or somewhere close by that may have become blocked?

If so, is the removal of the battery and the bracket it sits on an easy procedure or will I need a decent amount of electrical know how to get everything working once I reconnect the battery?

Ther doesn't appear to be any water leaking into the car at this stage and all electrics and running seem fine (touch wood).

Any help would be appreciated.

Yep there is a drain hole that seems to be blocked.

There is also one to the left under the servo, which is a bit trickier to get to.

Take the battery out and clear the drain hole, nice and easy

Thanks v.much Bertee, is it just the stereo that will reset then with the removal of the battery, no other issues?

Nope, no other issues.

I have done this on a mates Passat.

They seem to be common and can cause other problems if not sorted.

[cough] trip computer and clock.

Water in there can corrode the brake servo check it for rust where the water has been. This will cause loss of braking servo assist if the servo can gets a hole in it. HTH.

Ah well, not the biggest issues (clock & trip) lol

Oh, and it can reset the EML light as well if you have one.

I would not have believed if I had not seen it :giggle:

when you do the job just remove the grommets to stop it happening, as its these that get blocked
