Sticky Speedometer

Featured Replies

We have a strange issue with our Yeti in that when the cabin is very warm the speedometer seems to over read by about 40 mph, i.e. 40 Mph at standstill and so on. If the ignition is switched off this doesn't reset immediately but will return to zero over a period say half an hour.

I have not spoken to the dealer yet as we have only just noticed it but has anyone else experienced this and if so what was the outcome.

Cheers

Ian

Hi and welcome to the SMOC forum,

unfortunately I think this is one for the dealer, not seen this on a Yeti but had a similar fault (speedo would drop to '0' then recover later) with a BMW a few years ago. If I remember correctly there was a circuit board fault in the speedo unit.

As a side note; my Dad's Superb II I've noticed cycles the speedo, rpm etc. through there full reading range on start up, which I find a bit strange but apparently normal for the Superb emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Regards,

TP

I also experienced this in the past on another car and, in that case, the first repair attempt was to clean up the instrumentation, after that they decidedto change the full block of the instruments with a new one (under warranty).

The only annoyance is that at that stage the historical km of the car were reset and the intervention was marked in the car maintenance record.
