HI I HAVE A 1,6 OCTAVIA 2001 ,I HAVE NOTICED THAT A LOT OF THE PLASTIC ENGINE HOSES ARE STARTING TO CRACK ,IS THIS NORMAL ON THIS AGE CAR,MY TERMOSTAT HOUSING STARTED TO LEEK WHEN I TOOK IT OFF IT STARTED TO CRUMBLE THE MATERIAL THAT IT WAS MADE BECAME VERY BRITTLE ,I WAS INTERESTED IF ANY ONE ELSE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ,,THANK YOU

No need to shout :)

This is pretty common on older Octavias yes. The rubber and plastic hoses get brittle eventually and fail.

Not to the extent you seem to have it but I do feel that they could have used something more resilient for many of the hoses and pipes. On the 2003 Octavia I we bought in 2008 the crankcase breather hose has cracked at the harmonica bit (top) and had obviously been running like that for a while. The short connector between the breather valve and the entry to the throttle body was also cracked. I got a spare from the dealer for the breather tube and used self-vulcanising tape on the valve bit - would have had to replace the whole valve assy. otherwise.
