Auto Lights - Numptie Question & thoughts on the new Scout

Featured Replies

We took delivery of our new Scout on saturday & I think I have a problem with the auto lights but before I add that to the dealers list I just want to check its not me doing somerthing I shouldnt or not understanding them.

On the way home on sat some oik slammed on the brakes in front of me & I had to do a very swift stop. The car swerved to the left badly (dealer ??) but after that the Auto headlights came on, after a mile or so I switcherd them off, back onto auto a little later, they stayed off normally but came on in a tunnel so seemed OK.

Yesterday I got in the car on the drive at around 6pm in full sunlight & as I left the lights came on & stayed on, I switched off , on & they came on again. repeated it a couple of times & then they stayed off. Stopped in town with engine still running to pick up the good lady for I guess about 2 mins. As I pulled away they came on again, switched off & on a couple of times then they stayed off.

So are they quirky, does the very hot weather cause glitches, do they come on when its very bright or is it another on the list for the dealer.

Im sorry to say but after 300 miles Im not a happy chappy, Car feels a good design but with a horrendously rattley dash/steering column casing, door rattles, the lights, the self steering emergency stop although in fairness on that nothing was bedded in properly so I need to try again in a few more miles, hopefully a one off.

The old Mk 1 goes tonight, 165000 miles, one turbo, one aircon pump & 50+ mpg, still on the original cluth, exhaust etc & rattle wise only marginally worse than the new one.

Heres hoping its only a couple of new car niggles & normal Skoda service will be resumed.

There is a known issue with the AutoLights in bright sunlight.

Someone did explain the reason why and i "think" although not sure it can be recalibrated by a dealer

Mine behave the same really. I think the system is detecting the colour of the sunlight also and is turning them on as the sun is low in the sky (sunset/sunrise).

TBH I just leave mine to it. So long as they are actually on when it is dark/dusk I am happy for them to have a party through the day.

My column shroud does not rattle.

Sorry to hear about your problems Stu. My auto lights generally behave themselves. They come one when the wipers are working at a certain speed also. I would see what happens in normal daylight and not bright sun.

I have had them come on a couple of times in bright sunshine over the last 3 years. Just forget about them and they will go off in their own time. Of course if they are still coming on in the dull weather then they need looking at.

As for the rattles .... I've been lucky with the last 2 cars ( Octavia and Fabia ) and both have been rattle free. The first Fabia though had a really bad rattle and the dash had to come out to fix it. Hope you get all the stuff sorted and you can be happy with your new motor ...

Not really had any issues with mine when the lights are in "auto". Not got many rattles either.

Thanks so far

Not just me then !!!

Ive booked in to the dealers for a coat of looking at.

My Wife used it today to go to work for the first time this morning & got 48 mpg, thats a pleasant suprise. She got around 53 out of the old one so with a new engine that still needs to settle in & dpf thats a pleasant suprise.

Glad to hear you've finally got the car but sad to hear of your woes.

Both my Golfs have had Auto lights and not behaved as you describe so that doesn't sound right. They come on above 80mph, apparently. :o

Good luck with the dealer. :)
