Simon,

rather than getting the ECU remapped I take it you had a plug in box installed? Any difference to smoke/temperature? I am hearing that vw CR diesel is a nightmare to get to ECU.

Pete

No, there's no plug in box involved here. The ECU was removed from the car, decrypted, remapped via an overnight process involving a download from Bosch Germany (AFAIK) , encrypted and reinstalled. All of this was done with the full knowledge and support of Skoda NZ, who arranged for the remap and invoiced me for it. Skoda NZ warranty is unaffected. Performance is noticeably improved and I've noticed no "smoke" or untoward behaviour from the car at all; it drives just as it did before the remap, just quicker :p .

Car delivered 1st March as advised. Have so far travelled over thirteen thousand miles in it! Faultless. New 1.8TSI engine is excellent all rounder - getting 35 mpg average. Only gripe - why no DSG option for TSI? Enjoying potholes and looking forward to snow unlike my previous BMWs which were twice the price and 'crap' î•. Great car so far.
