Chrome trim inside headlights

Featured Replies

I see a few people have painted the inner chrome trim on their headlights. How easy is it to dismantle the headlights, do they need go in an oven to soften glue, or can they just be taken apart?

If they can be taken apart using just tools, do they need to be removed from the car first? Have searched around the forum and can't see any threads relating to this.

Thanks.

Thats great mate, thanks ;)

Hmm, think I'll go to the scrappers to buy some lights, then I can take my time and do it properly. Rushing to get it finished will no doubt lead to me wrecking them lol.

One day when I get some time in the summer.....................

What colour ru going for? be different! have white :D red will also look a bit different...

I was originally thinking orange, but my current theme may conflict with that slightly..

I need to take mine apart. One unit is quite clouded up. It is true you have to take the bumper off to remove the lights? there no quick short cut I can take? :D

lol, I'm not going to be too adventurous, probably black, but also thinking about blue. Got blue indicators and they look good with the silver bodywork, but I might just get blue headlight bulbs and stick with a black surround. Hmm maybe a metallic grey like some clios have.

I think orange might look alright on a black car, you need to get it photoshop'd

Not strictly true, I have heard about people unbolting the slam panel and then bending it by wedging it up

with a block of wood to access the impossinuts. I'd rather remove it than bend anything TBH.

Once you've got them out, I've heard on here that you can put them in the oven to seperate the pieces :o

The safe money is on the link I sent you mate. Personally I'd rather spend a 1er on a new pair that

are manufactured that way. I'm just not sure you'll easily cure that fogging lens mate and you may have to

buy a pair anyway if you botch it up... Your car's too pretty for a patch up job

Sounds good - I've been really fond of silver cars after seeing all the lovely examples lately!

The new plan (since I got the retro badge) is going a bit euro/retro, thinking of getting making the surround black and lamin-x'ing the headlights it yellow. Legality is a little controversial (as MOT says its 'OK' to have yellow lights) but I suspect I might attract some attention from the boys in blue.

But back to topic, think giving it a good go without rushing the 1st time should be fine I would imagine. maybe put a layer of silicon glue just incase..?

I like yellow headlights, think they will look nice on black, not on silver though.
