Shuttle Launch pics

Featured Replies

Just got back from two excellent weeks in Florida, i have been twice previously but this time was lucky enough to be able to see the Shuttle launch.

I took these pics with my Panasonic TZ7 and the first two are cropped from a larger image. But i am fairly happy with them all the same.

I watched the launch from a place called Space View Park in Titusville, about 12 miles away. I have been there before and a launch got cancelled. Glad i got to see one eventually.

Here is a video that i also took of the launch

Lol, fact : The overall power of a space shuttle at takeoff is about 12 GW or 12 billion watts of power. That is about 16 million horsepower......

Or to put that into perspective, you can still here it, a few miles out, even when surrounded by Americans going 'WOW,...OH MY GOD'.... 'WOOOOOHHHHHHH' etc :giggle:

 Good video, I'm just jealous :notme:

I wish the sound had been picked up better on my camera. Thats the only slight niggle. It really does crackle when its taking off. A totally unforgettable experience. BTW i did let out a few Woooohoooo's myself. lol. I couldn't help it it was that good.

I bet, have seen and heard the Eurofighter fairly close up, 20,000 lbf thrust per engine (afterburners on and climbing) doesn't even come close to

the shuttle but I know what you mean, the air around you, and in your chest seems to crackle
