ESP warning light problem

Featured Replies

Hi

I am a new user of the forum. Would like to know from members about a solution for my ESR warning triangle light on the dashboard of my Octavia 1.9tdi man estate 2002. The problem was not present before or after the front tyres were changed. The timing belt has been changed, osr/nsr springs changed as well at the rear disc and brake pads. Any possible answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to Briskoda. emoticon-0100-smile.gif I have started a new thread for your query. Do you mean the ESP (electronic stability program) light - and do you have an ESP button on the dash between the fuel release and HRW buttons??

Hi

Yes there is an ESP button on the dashboard.

If the switch is turned on, then that disabled ESP, and a warning triangle will appear on the dash. I believe the switch functions as a pulse style switch, and defaults to 'ESP enabled' each time the ignition is turned on (and thus warning triangle is *not* illuminated on the dash), unless of course something is broken.....

I wonder if an ABS ring might have been damaged?

You really need to get the system read for any logged codes to aid diagnosis.

Do you have an Owner's Manual? If so, read page 78 which lists the various systems which form part of the ESP. If not, you can download an official copy from Skoda via the first link below - in which case refer to pages 35 and 131 for details of the ESP system. But as fordfan advised above, you really need a diagnostic scan carrying out. You can use the second link below to see if there are any Briskoda members near you who might be able to help with that.

Hi, thank you to all of you who have offered advise. I was not able to see the replies until now. Here is what I have had one so far. The triangle warning sign was cured by the timing being out by a notch after the timing belt change. The timing was corrected and the warning light has cleared from the dashboard. Correct in the the handbook the is reference to TCS and other systems. When the ASR button is operated the triangle with circle and arrow is seen in the dashboard. From the manual the TCS is always on and by operating the switch it is turned off. When switched off the ride seems firmer, and when reactivated the ride seems softer, 'wallowy'.

This is not the first case reported here of timing being out after a cambelt change. Good to hear it is now sorted and useful to know too that the problem can result in the ASR light illuminating.
