Hi all,

Teh Furby has developed her first fault :( The clutch pedal take about 2 seconds to rebound when fully depressed.

I'm guessing its the clutch master cylinder that has gone?

Recon it will be pricey to fix?

Part is 35 quid mate but............................You need to do as much work to change cylinder as to change a clutch really sorry so 250ish labour, my clutch is slipping so while im at it changing the cylinder.

250 labour? :o owch :(

It really takes 4.5 hours to do? O_o

I remember it took under an hour when I had it done on my 2.0 8v but that was a different engine. Didn't think it was that different thou :o

what i can gather is that changing the cylinder is as much to change the clutch perhaps a bit less but its advised to change the cylinder if changing the clutch because you have to rip it apart all over agian if it goes.

Ok thx for the info :)

I'll give my local garage (Browns) a call in the week and get a quote

*mini update*

Spoke to my man Alex down at Browns garage in Thame and he says it might just need bleeding  - he's gonna have a look at it soon but lets hope so as that's bound to be a bit cheaper eh? :)

Might also simply be a broken pedal return spring. Or, if your unlucky, the clutch pedal is plastic, and they can start to fracture which causes the symptoms you have.

:o

ok thx for the heads up. Lets hope its just a spring lol :) Can't afford any big repair bills atm :( - saving for new shocks :giggle::thumbup:

The clutch is operated by a slave cylinder which is inside the clutch housing, thats why the labour costs.

As moggy says check the pedal box for faults.

*mini update 2*

Car is still in the garage - they found the slave cylinder had gone so replaced it, but after putting it all back together it blew again... so now they say it is the master cylinder that caused it so that is getting replaced as well as another new slave cylinder. :'(

I'm not looking forward to the bill. :(

I was originality told £300 for replacing the slave cylinder but god knows what its going cost me now.

I'm pretty p1ssed off to be honest as I only had the car a month - brought it off the bloke that is doing the repairs.

dont see how a faulty master cylinder can damage a slave cylinder..

Me neither but I'm not that mechanically minded.

Maybe someone here can shed some light on the subject.
