I'm an idiot!

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm such a plonker!

Parked my 3 week old octavia vrs up on Friday and opened the boot up completely forgetting that I'd parked in an area where the ceiling was very low. Before I know it I heard a loud bang. You guessed it, boot had hit the roof and made a nice scratch on the spoiler. Anyone got any good ideas as to how I can get the marks out?!

Thanks

How bad are the marks? run the back of your finger nail over the scratch, if you can't feel it, it will polish out, or you could use a touch up stick then wet sand and polish.

My brother did it to mine when in a multi storey car park. I have just left mine and since car is being traded in it will stay like it now. If not very handy yourself your could try one of the paint repair specialist like chipsaway or similar.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I MAY get away with polishing it out. Any recommendations?

Given it's on the rear edge of the spoiler, I think you're going to have to do it by hand. Therefore - Meguiars Scratch-X 2.0. It's £9 or so. Will require plenty of elbow grease but it's your best bet.

If you don't get anywhere and it looks like it's going to need paint, it's in a fairly conspicuous high up place, so you're probably best off getting somebody like ChipsAway to do it for you.

TBH honest, if it all goes wrong, just get a body shop to do it, my local place charged 80 sheets to spray and fit the spoiler to my estate, ok, so the hatch spoiler is a bit bigger, but I still think you will pay less than chips away or similiar, and the job will be spanking.

I was that soldier. First day I had the car.

The boot is plastic so it's not going to rust, so you've time to get things sorted. I chipped the paint but ended up leaving it about 18months, until I was getting another scratch fixed.

Been there, done that. Bloody low ceiling multi-storey in Lowestoft. Got a small ship dead centre, not as bad as the shopping trolley battle scar it got a couple of weeks ago on the rear panel. The world is against us :(

The missues even managed to do it to the non spoilered boot of the previous car,

on about three separate occassions!!!

She got her revenge though, she distracted me whilst unloading the boot,

making me let go of the handle, dink!

It's funny how the smooth looking concrete on car park ceilings is anything but.

I wonder how high the tailgate on Roomsters goes? must be a nightmare!
