Fabia VRS vs Rivals

Hi there, sorry to bother you lot again! Basically im abit stuck at the moment. Having sold my zetec-s near easter i need a car for the summer and then for my second year at uni, ive had my eye on a fabia vrs for ages and think there lovely looking subtle cars and reading up about them their practical aswell. So what would make a vrs stand out against competitors such as golf gt tdis and leons etc. Knowing that the initial cost of the fabia is abit more than the rivals makes me abit anxious to begin with and maybe a cheaper alternative may be better but the vrs has fairly low insurance.

Any advice would be great.

I believe that actually the vRS is cheaper then its equivalent rivals (VW /Seat) but saying that they are holding thier used value well atm. :thumbup:

I was having a look on both autotrader and pistonheads and it seems that the fabias range from £4500 to around £6500 whereas a mk4 golf is around £4500-£5000. Saying that though, some of the fabias have done a lot less miles.

i picked mine up with 140k miles on it 1 owner full service history 12 months mot and 6 months tax paid £3500 for it done a stage 1 remap so its now 178bhp 285ft-lb driven 10k miles plus a trip to the nurburgring 2 laps there and a rolling road day and its never missed a beat love it :thumbup: the sleeper factor is well worth it as well the look on peoples faces as it pulls away :rofl: you wont be disapointed and dont let high mileage put you off all mine has ever had above norm is a new rad according to the paper work i got which was leaking other than that just tyres brakes ect B)

:o you sure the mk4 has the pd130 engine as in the vRS?

I always thought u paid more for the VW badge etc then for skoda.

and the golf would probaly be an older car too

this being the reason i bought a vrs ,you get a newer car with less mileage....enuff said imo emoticon-0148-yes.gif

+ imo vRS is a nicer shape then the golf :)

As you are a student and probably strapped for cash, how about the Fabia PD100 or even an SDI, both are diesel but better economy and cheaper to buy than the VRS.

Hardly an upgrade from the zetec S and will only make the OP want the "full fat" vRS fab imo ;)

yer i think your right. if i got something id always want to make it a vrs and therefore might aswell go all out and get a vrs from the start. thanks for the advice though, always after good advice!

I've just gone from a Mark 5 Fiesta Zetec S to a VRS. Loving it so far, such a better car in every way! Do it, you will never look back!

Isnt it pointless comparing the Fabia vRS to a Golf and Leon as they arnt in the same catergory.

As far as i was aware the Fabia is to be compared with a Polo and a Ibiza.

Chrispyvrs - I sold my fiesta zs for a Fabia vRS and would never go back, although the fiesta is a lot better handling car, the vRS has some power to it.

Only had a couple of little issues that were just me being picky.

Fantastic car and a lot cheaper than its competitors.

As has been said, Golf and Leon are bigger cars, so not a fair comparison.

Just go for one that's been well looked after and I'm sure you won't go far wrong - I was looking for an '07 LE and ended up buying an '04 - I just went to look at it to pass the time but it was in such good nick for a five-year-old car (at the time) and with complete Skoda service history I couldn't pass it up.

Nearest equivalents are Polo GT TDi (end up paying more for the badge and I prefer the way the Fabia looks) and Ibiza FR (these appear to be cheaper than the Fabia). The Ibiza Cupra is pricier, but you're getting more bang (insurance is likely to be pretty nasty though, especially if you're young - on the old grouping system it's 7 groups higher than the vRS).

yup standard clutch is rated to 300ft-lb so im well with in its limits and turbo is standard as well
