octavia mk 1 vrs

Featured Replies

Hi guys would like some advise, apologies if this has been answered before but im a little confused. I purchased my mk1 octy vrs about a year and half ago from main dealer with 59k as part of deal I asked for cam belt and water pump to be changed. However I recently found out that they only did the belt and as for come back they dont want to know.

Would I be correct in thinking that being that my car is an 05 plate it will already have an upgraded pump supplied in manufacture? If not and being that it has now covered 67k I should get the pump done asap and obviously yet another belt, im guessing this wont make difference to price just belt cost? Would this be a metal impeler pump now ?

And lastly anyone know of a good independent specialist in the south hampshire area, I have read good things regarding JKM Portsmouth, any advise greatly received.

Does the pump just go without warning and wreck engine or should I risk it and look out for warning if worst happens? Thanks

Usually the impellor on the pump becomes loose on its shaft. The symptom of this is that as you work the engine harder it gets hotter and the temperature needle moves beyond the centre of the gauge. I've seen a few pumps get to this stage, without any wrecked engines.

Mine is an 06 plate Mk1 and when I had the water pump changed it wasn't uprated as far as I'm aware. It looked the same as all the pics I've seen of pumps from older cars.

My 05 plater vrs had the belt changed at 70k and the pump looked like new.

I think some of them might have used the older pumps to get rid of old stock etc.

Maybe...
