Poorboy's White Diamond

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I’ve got a Fabia in “metallic stone grey†finish. I gave it a quick clay, polish and wax (well, sealant) when I got it back in October, although this was a little bit of a rush-job due to the weather, and I didn’t get all of the marks out. Now that it’s due for another application of sealant, I thought I’d book a few days in to get it done properly.

Whilst most of the panels are OK, some have some marks in them - typically around the door handles and the boot release. As I don’t particularly like the idea of using polish when it’s not really needed, I was thinking of getting some Poorboy’s White Diamond glaze to go over the panels that didn’t need polishing, just to hide up any minor swirls, and use Autoglym Super Resin Polish on the bits that did (seeing as I already have this).*

So, do you think this would look OK, or would it look a bit harlequin-like? I assume there’s not much point polishing the panels, then using the WD on top of the polish (other than to get the marks out), as it’s got paint cleaners in it, which I assume would remove the polish (SRP having fillers, etc, in it)?

Secondly, I’ll be sealing it with Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection (as I have a couple of bottles), which I’ve heard doesn’t play nicely when applied over other products (SRP excepted). So, will applying the EGP remove the WD?

Thanks for any input J

* Actually, I’m in two minds as to whether I should just polish the whole thing to get all the marks out this time, and then use a glaze from then on.

I would personally properly polish the trouble areas with scratch X 2, then apply SRP over the whole car.

Once this has been done, apply EGP and then a couple of layers of something hard wearing like Colli 476s over the top of this.

That should see a long term shine and nice beading to the car :)

Obviously there are other things around, but this will work on the what you already have basis.

Poorboys White Diamond is for white and very light coloured paint

Do this:

Polish the whole car with AGSRP...buff off...Perhaps two applications if it warrants it

Apply Poorboys Black Hole Glaze..again 2 coats as necessary ... http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/glazes/poorboys-black-hole/prod_494.html

Apply Poorboys EG-P Sealer http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/poorboys-ex-p-sealant/prod_26.html

Finish with wax of your choice

You will now have the best possible finish you can get and bulletproof protection.

Yeah, I was going to do that (I already have the ScratchX) :)

Yeah, I got a good 7 months out of the 3 layers of EGP I had on it before :)

Ah, I was looking at it because it said for white, silver, and other light colours. I guess they mean truly silver? I did think of Black Hole, it's just metallic stone is basically middle-tone - neither light nor dark!

TVM :) Can I subsitute the PB EG-P sealer for AG EGP? It's just I have a fair bit of it (it was on offer), and I'd like to use it :)

Surely you put the EGP on after the wax?

I was told sealant then wax, as EGP doesn't play nice when applied over stuff, and waxes "breathe" (evaporate off), whereas sealants don't (do it the wrong way and it goes cloudy).

ah ok - makes sense i suppose! I always though that stuff like EGP was done last. Things like Zaino Z-8 is the last step and thats a sealent??

Not entirely, sure, to be honest - I'm just taking my info from the sticky on polishing and waxing. :)

To be honest, I've never used a wax, just sealant ...

If you do then just skip the black hole as I don't think the AG EGP would stick to it too well, although I could be wrong.

OK ... save myself a little bit of money, I guess :)

Thanks :)
