Pre Cat Lambda Sensor cable size question.

Featured Replies

Need to replace the front lambda sensor on my 2001 Fabia estate. Not wanting to pay the £160 for Skoda to supply it I went to Euro Car Parts. Problem is they said there's 2 different ones listed. One is 425mm and the other over 600mm.

My engine code is AUB and is a 1.4 16v.

Wondering which one I need to get. Its the pre cat sensor I need which is located behind the heat shield on the front.

I don't know what the sizes relate to, they look a little large to be the size of the probe, it could be the cable length. Are these two different types of bank 1 sensor 1 (B1 S1)?, or are they saying that there are two probes fitted to the car (B1 S1 and B1 S2)? If the latter, I think that the probes are different types and that they have a different number of wires going to them, 5 wires for B1 S1 (pre cat) and 4 wires for B1 S2 (post cat).

Sorry. I forgot to mention its the cable length from the sensor to the plug that are apparently 2 types. Mine is a 5 wire one. I use the car everyday so it's hard to find time when the engine is cool enough for me to take the sensor off and my nearest euro parts is a few miles away.

Sorted this one now. I got an NTK one 425mm cable length from Euro Car Parts for £98. I did try a BOSCH one at first but it had to be returned as it was putting the engine management light on with error codes showing open circuit and heater malfunction. The BOSCH one also required a higher voltage to work as well.

Emissions are still excellent though at 0.001 lol

Oh, that's good to know as NTK is what VAG fit at factory (they are part of NGK), I looked online at supplier prices and ended up buying at my local VW

That is good to know that ECP sell NTK as that is what the original one would have been (NTK is part of NGK), I seem to remember that the NTK website had a full applications list along with all data like connector type and cable length and "make up" with respect to heat shielding etc.
