How much for a alternator, pulley and aux belt cost to S & F?

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is my first post on the forum's!. I'm after a ballpark figure as to how much it should cost to have a new alternator, pulley and aux belt supplied and fitted to a Octavia 1.9tdi 2002 model. I've been quoted £320 - is this about right?

Thanks.

How much!...

Do you actually need the alternator, or just the pulley?

I had the pulley and belt done at a main dealer for under £75.

alternator i think is around about 130 plus vat if you exchange your unit. then belt is probably £5 worth. so with fitting, i doubt you'll get it done for under £250. as cheeze said, avoid getting the alternator unless the thread on the spindle is really knackered.

Had a cambelt change plus water pump plus Aux belt and the Alternator pulley replaced as loud squeking noise , all done for £400 by recomended indy in exeter today , he said no need to replace alternator as the pulley is a replacement part on the octy 1.9 tdi asz engine

This is true if caught early enough when the pulley is perhaps only lose. But if the pulley comes off while driving, it can damage the alternator spindle to the point where a new pulley would not stay on. Therefore needing a new alternator when all that's needed is a new spindle the pulley sits on.
