I have had my Octy 1.8 T Elegance for only a few weeks. It is 10 months old and i got it from a local car dealer (Not a skoda dealer). The Car has been previously owned by a fleet company.

Now i am very happy with the car, howver when i got the car there was no owners manual or service documentation, apparently the previous owner (fleet company) could not find it to forward it Obviously the car had not had a service anyway because it only had 5.5k on the clock. So the dealer i got the car from got a new owners manual and new (duplicate) service record.

They have serviced the car and stamped up the service record for me. So in effect my 1st year service was done at 5.5k but the car was ten months old. Should this be a problem when i come to my second service, which will be done by main dealer????

Also after reading the owners manual i have learned that i should have a "key Tab" which i do not have, i do intend to get in touch with the garage i got the car from but if i do not get this "key tab" can is it impossible to get a replacement key if i ever needed one.

Now i have not heard any bad reports of the place i got my car from but should i be concerned about future warranty claims and or servicing via a main dealer???

Thanks for the help

Rob

Might be worth contacting Skoda Customer services. I believe Skoda keep a file on all cars so they will have records of any warranty work done on the car & might therefore be able to tell you which dealers has worked on it if any, you could then contact them to gain more history.

I wouldnt have thought a replacement key would not be a problem through a Skoda dealer but it might take a few days so I suggest you get a spare now just in case

I believe that you will need to be able to prove that the car has been serviced in the past in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule in order to benefit from the official warranty - starting with proof that a delivery inspection was carried out. Is the fleet company which first registered the car able to supply proof that the mileage really was 5.5K when they sold the car on, and is the condition of the car commensurate with the mileage? We did have a thread a while ago about a company-owned Octavia vRS which had a major engine problem within the warranty period. SkodaUK refused the repair on the grounds that the car did not have a full service history.

The car itself is in mint condition. I have been in touch with skoda uk customer services today and explained my situation to them. They have told me that not having the delivery inspection stamp will not cause me any problems with the warranty, because if i had lost the service record a duplicate would be issued without the delivery stamp anyway even though the car would be 100% genuine.

I do intend to get in touch with enterprise rent a car, who were the previous owners and try to get as much info from them as i can.

I have to say that skoda customer services and my local dealer have been excellent with the queries i have made of them regarding the sitiuation with the car and have at no time indicated or mentioned that i may have a problem with the warranty or any other aspect of dealing with them, in fact they have been quite the opposite.

Even when i explained that the car is on variable servicing but the garage i got it from serviced it with a normal fixed 10,000 mile service prior to me receiving the car.

I am however thinking of replacing the oil with the stuff they use for variable serviceing anyway.

From what you say it sounds like you have managed to buy a nice low mileage car. Enjoy. If you are going to get the oil changed for Longlife oil, why not ask a dealer to programme your car for variable servicing?

Dont worry about your key, with your vehicle details the dealer can email Skoda for any security info you might need, i.e radio codes, key numbers and immobilizer codes.
