MG TF - all show and no go !

Featured Replies

twin exhaust on the above-mentioned mg.

noticed this morning that the car in front only had vapour coming from one exhaust tail pipe. other pipe is just for show?

why pretend you're driving summat more than you really are? its factory fit so the MG designers thought they could fool the public (until a cold winter morning arrives).

and my point??

thumbs up to the vrs designers (both octy and fabia) for understating both cars' performance and not making them look too flash.

all mgfs and TF have twin tail pipes and they both work.. but like many 4 cylider eng cars they dont generate enuf gas at idle to push it through both... on wide throttle vapour will appear from both.

didn't ford do this as a factory fit option to the smaller engined capri's to ame em look like the 2.8/3.0's?

I noticed this one whilst sitting behind a TF at the lights one evening. I mentioned to one of the guys where I work who used to drive a TF. Apparently the TF (not the F) has a valve in the exhaust which blanks off the offside tailpipe until the engine is up to temperature. I presume it's something to do with emissions but don't really understand what difference it would make.

i stand well and truly corrected and am currently munching on a huge piece of humble pie !!

apologies to any MG owners out there,

steve.

I've seen 1.2 Corsa's with huge twin tailpipes that appear to be factory fitted, now I ask you, what is the point in that!!

Regardless of the truth, I fear an apology to MG owners is probably unnecessary.....!

Apparently the flap has a vacuum pipe to it all the way from the engine and some electrical connection. Most TF owners in the know pull the wire off so the flap is open all the time to make it look very powerful at the lights on a cold morning!!

so maybe they ARE all great pretenders at heart?

never enjoyed the thought of apologising to an MG owner anyway, so thanks for that. surely though , any TF owner 'in the know' would have thought to get rid of their car and get summat decent? :D

cheers,

steve.
