Insurance - It's a Joke!

Featured Replies

Last year I paid £650 with 3 years no claims for my Fabia vRS with Swiftcover. Since it's due again next month I thought I'd start looking at quotes. With an extra years no claims and the fact that I'm not a student I thought it would go down. Nope It's gone UP to £680. That's the cheapest quote I could find. I was hoping for it to be half that!

I can't work it out. There's me thinking all those years ago that going on my own to pay for my insurance and building up my no claims would save me money when in actual fact it's costing more.

Anyone know of a cheap insurance company? I don't want to go with Swiftcover again because there's some cars I'd consider buying in the future that they don't insure. The car is completely standard and I do 10000 miles a year.

have you tried chris knott?

Keep searching I went on gocompare for mine and the wifes .Both of them came up about £160 cheaper than my renewal quote and both were with the companies I am insured with robbing gets !!!!

I'm reading more and more of this on a variety of forums. I'm inclined to wonder whether the base prices of insurance have just jumped this year for some reason.

In any case, I recommend talking to Brentacre.

Insurance premiums have gone up across the board. Definatley play the price comparison game. Get a "new" quote from Swiftcover too and see if it's different. If it's chepaer ring them up and complain. Might make it worth sticking with them.

I just snatched the arm off my lot. Privilege. They offered me £360 for my 1,8 Elegance DSG, which I was amazed at being offered considering I had a prang last year (My fault!).

I tried the web searches and the cheapest I was offered was a joke of £561, the highest was a joke at £1,160 and I won't even give you the name of that bunch of shysters! I then tried Direct Line and they offered me £379, which wasn't bad, but £20 is £20 and it saves me all the hassle of sending paperwork everywhere.

What's even more laughable about this con called insurance is the fact that half the names appear to be the same company but under a different trading name. I mean Privilege is underwritten by Direct Line! Weird.

Privilage , Directline and Churchill are all quoting around £800! So much for no claims bonus!

Insurance is going up across the board I believe. A collegue at work (mid 30s full no claims and no points etc) who drives a 56plate Honda Accord has seen his insurance nearly double to £500 this year. He has phoned around and all are quoting similar prices. So if yours has only gone up by £30 then you are not doing too bad. Will be interesting to see what my insurance goes up to next month when I renew.

Try Brentachre I was getting quotes of 700+ for a modified Octy1 Vrs, they did it for 570 Very professional service aswell :)

you're lucky! I'm in a pretty similar position to you. I'm also insured with swiftcover, policy due to expire in a month, I paid £560 last year, and I've just done a quick confused.com this morning and the cheapest I can get is £750!! The only change in circumstance I have is that I've moved area and jobs. I've gone from Derbyshire, down to Berkshire, and I'm now technically unemployed (doing voluntary work). Needless to say I was quite shocked at such a dramatic increase over the year, just for changing jobs and where I live!! pfft!! anyone got any help or advice for me?!
