Fabia Ambiente stereo hole to small to fit aftermarket HU

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a Fabia '55 1.2 Ambiente and wanted put my iPod in through a Aux line-in so got myself an aftermarket stereo from Halfords. After succesfully removing the original unit I cannot fit the aluminium surround that came with the new stereo (Kenwood). The plastic hole in the dash is about 2mm too small all around.

The original stereo fitted tightly into the hole, but without the aluminium surround. Halfords say they have seen this once or twice before and they can only suggest removing some material which I am a little reluctant to do.

Has anyone else had this problem, or have any wise words of advice??

Cheers

Personally I would take it back and put the original back in place. Your insurance may only cover the factory fitted unit anyway and any damage caused by a potential thief.

There are loads of these type handy gadgets around which would solve your problem.

If Halfrauds get funny about it remind them it should be fit for purpose and it isn't.

Yeah, I had kinda come to that conclusion. So far Halfords have been surprisingly helpful, I just really want to get an Aux line in.

I haven't ever had a good experience with the FM units, sound quality being poor (on top of poor speakers in Fabia) and unreliable reception.

Seems strange that this model can't accept an aftermarket unit.....
