Cycle carrier

Featured Replies

Hi

If anybody is interested in attaching their bike on to their Octavia for the summer holidays.

I had brought Thule clipon high 9106 cycle rack because as I did not have a tow bar fitted I was looking for something that cleared the number plate and the rear lights plus strong and easy to fit.

Been to France and back this week I found that the bike rack was stable and clear view through the rear hatch and can be folded when you havn't got the bike attached plus you can lift the hatch without coming on to your head.

Great piece of equipment.

No problems going on, off the ferry and driving in France.

To protech the paint work I used gaffe tape on the leading edges.

I payed about £120 on the internet.

Careful in France. I've heard those rear racks aren't legal there, and I've seen the plod stopping drivers with them on the back of their cars! Can't tell you if they were stopped because of the racks, but did see more than one

Its Spain that you can't use a rear mounted rack .

Can you use it with a light bar? I've got the low mounted one, which is technically illegal here in NSW, Australia, as it blocks the lights (and the registration plate, although I've got a duplicate). I've also got the "light bar", which is a lightweight tailight repeater unit - but my delaer tells me it can't be installed.

Anyone had any luck with the electrics.

PS. I have use the rack anyway - unfortunately the spacing of the bars means you can't use it for a kids bike, and it's a bit difficult for a women's bike, although workable. My bike fitted perfectly!
