Octavia ATE ABS problem - any advice?

Featured Replies

96 06 Octavia 2.0 TDI Elegance started showing ABS & ASR warning lights.

Gradually got worse with brake red !, power steering & EMS warning lights all coming on, and the speedo acting up!

After several diagnosis attempts, garage is now saying ABS Controller (ATE make) needs replaced - at £1100+, pretty please.

They don't think Skoda will part-fund, but I've asked them to at least ask; am awaiting update.

Meantime, is anyone aware of this type of problem and likelihood of Skoda helping out?

Note: I've seen the postings on this site re Teves ABS faults and found similar info on VW fault sites as a very common problem.

Thanks in anticipation!

Is yours a 1996 MK I Ocatvia or a MY 2005 onwards MK II 2.0 TDI?

Whoops; sorry for typo (1 key out)!

Should have said 06 (i.e. 2006) MkII 2.0 TDI.

So, just over 4 years old, with just 34k on clock.

Searched a bit more on web for "ATE".

Surprise, surprise "ATE" = "Continental Teves AG & Co".

I don't know which model of ABS Controller my car has but, suffice to say, it is still a cause of faults.

if Skoda won't play and it needs a new one, there is a remanufacturing outfit which claims a permanent repair for approx £400 sorry I can't remember who but Honest John site will help,,, Has anyone been onto watchdog yet?

Or you could try small claims court. It's a sealed for life unit that should last the life of the car. And 4yr is not a reasonable lifespan for a car.
