Xenons Abroad

Featured Replies

I am going away next week to sunny (hopefully) France.

I have a 07 pre facelift Octy with xenons, auto levelling and light assist, I have looked on VRStu's website and found it very helpful as a guide on how to change the lights for continential driving, however I have taken my lights out and they obviously look different inside.

I did find another thread on here about changing the xenons to continental, but the images have gone (maybe lost in the server change).

Has anyone got a guide on changing the xenon units to flat beam as the dealer says it takes hours, and they want a rather large sum of money for the privilage (and I gather from here it doesn't).

I know one of you can explain even if you dont have the pictures, although they would help as I have never done it before.

Thanks in advance

Rich

On the FL with Maxidot and Xenons there is a menu option to change the lights to Travel Mode. Do you have Maxidot? If so, is the option there on the pre-FL?

If not, then I think you have the unfortunate job of messing about with the lights...

no maxidot option on the pre fl, i know its a disassembly job, but am under the impression its easy as people do it while on the chunnel!

But are they doing that with Xenons? It would take me ten minutes to change mine to flat beam as I have the standard halogen lights... I doubt if it is as simple with the Xenons with the ballasts and leveling systems that they have built into them

Shame you can't sort it with Maxidot.

The housing is essentially the same, the clear housing on the back that is empty on the halogens, holds the ballast in the xenons, just not sure if i need to remove the bulb unit or anything else to do it. Most importantly I dont want to damage anything, because they are a little on the steep side to replace!

Does this help at all? I have an FL with Halogen lights and they are different at the back, but the procedure is essentially the same. If you remove the bulb unit, do you have the little slider?

sussed it!

you have to remove the bulb unit held in with two torx screws, and it is exactly the same as the halogen setup.

bonus

money saved!

Raglits, have you used this procedure to adjust FL Xenons without maxidot?

Sorry only just seen this.

The procedure is the same for xenon lights you just have to remove the ballast etc to get at the lever.

The guide on here and Stu's website is mine so I know it works

Thanks VRSCarl, It is a spot on guide, i was just a bit stumped when it looked a bit too different to the pictures, Maybe you should suggest to Stu, that the bit about xenons should be added as text, that would have made it so much clearer. Or I could send you some xenon headlight unit pics when I come back from France in June.

Regards, Rich

You can mate if you wish.

Thanks

NO there isnt

SUK told me to go to that car parts store and buy some deflectors. Did and job done in about 10 minutes whereas SUK would have charged me loads for (apparently) a bumper removal, lights out and back in, refit etc etc. Someone's telling me porkies I think by the looks of the posts above.

There is absolutely no need to remove the bumper :o

The whole process takes about 5 mins (prob 10-15 for xenons due to removing the ballast etc)

Can't comment for FL lights as not looked at any.

No more than 10 mins per side with xenons (pre f/l), and that was a first time (once I had worked out what to do B) ).

No bumper out, no laptop wizardry, and the dealer wanted 2 hours labour to change to continential and then another 2 hours to change them back :wonder: .

Some time ago (according to the parts guy) Skoda were selling headlamp protectors with black masked areas on that did the job also, but no mention of them in the accessories book anymore, and he couldnt find them on the computer.

No, as I don't have Xenons on mine

The FL lights are a different shape, but it's the same procedure. First time I looked at them was when changing the bulbs for Philips Extreme and it took me about 10 minutes tops...

Not sure if there are any differences on the FL Xenons though
