2nd Electrical fault

Featured Replies

After this thread, SWMBO's Fabia developed another (presumably unrelated?) fault last night.

I'll skip some of the detail, but she suffered a failure of sidelights and dipped headlights. The front fog lights and full beam still worked, and I checked the fuses (all fine), and gave up - time for the RAC. When the local Recovery guy arrived he checked the bulbs (all 4 blown) and replaced them - they blew again immediately. He obviously didn't want to recover the car home, so he 'modified' the full beam to provide a useable, less blinding beam - with electrical tape. It looked like some really severe eyebrows! He was adamant that its perfectly legal as long as you can see, and don't blind anyone, but I'm not sure I believed him.

Anyway, she followed me home, and I managed to get it into the local Independant garage this morning (many thanks to Cadley Garage).

They found power from the switch but not at the bulbs, and the alternator was charging at the correct rate. However, the connector at the back of the switch was loose, and once refitted and secured, its was good

They reckon that the switch might need replacing at some point, if the connector is loose, but it should be good for now

Just thought I'd let you know, in case anyone else has this problem...
