Fabia Audio Trouble

Featured Replies

Right, basically, bought the car with blown speakers. Source some Sony's as replacement, not bothered about quality etc too much, just want some noise back!

Fitting them, everything's fine, however, I have a problem.

Over certain volume I get this funky crackling sound and it's VERY annoying. The speakers haven't blown, they're fine, i've tested them vigorously numerous times inside on a low powered amp I have in my house.

I've got a video to demonstrate what I mean by this crackling.

If I set the volume to the right of the car, the speakers are fine, up to the point where they're basically at their peak of performance.

If I set the volume to the left side of the car, the speakers still just consistantly make this crackling noise, after about volume 15 or so.

I'm slightly baffled? Any help appreciated. Here's the video

Have you checked for any tears around the cone

Damaged head unit

Wire Fault or connections

Damaged Speaker

To narrow it down, swap the left and right speakers at the HU so the right channel is going to the left speaker and left channel is going to the right speaker. If there is still a crackling noise on the left hand side of the car, its either wiring/connections or speaker, as you have checked the speakers on a different amp and all is OK I would say the wiring or connections. If the noise has now moved to the right its something to do with the HU.

Ive had that sound on both blown amps and speakers, albeit home stereo system ones

Are the speakers rated correctly for the stereo?

Was it the same stereo that blew the old speakers?

Its all about eliminating things one at a time.
