Scuttle Pane Removal

Featured Replies

Whilst in the engine bay today I noticed that the scuttle around the pollen filter has half a tree in it - need to remove the plastic panel above the pollen filter to clean it out but after removing the rubber seal I can't see what is holding it on, anyone know what is holding it?

take wipers off then pull but it is a complete bitch and there very easy to break

The scuttle panel has a strip that clips into the bottom of the windscreen so when pulling the cover off, pull at 90 deg to the screen..... if you see what I mean.

Once you know what your doing you remove the passenger side without removing the drivers side.

This shows the strip/grip at the bottom of the screen

Just the passenger side removed (even though it is "under" the drivers side)

There is no need to remove the wipers. It's easy when you know how, just wear a pair of protective gloves and pull the plastic panel out towards you.

Excellent - thanks all, pictures are very handy again - now I see how it is held in I should be able to get 2 jobs done at once as the scuttle is a virtual plant pot and needs a good clean while I'm at it - thanks

It is also worth undoing the torx screws which hold the rear of the wheel arch liners in place and removing the leaves/compost which will be forming.... wash through with some water from above when you have remove the scuttle cover and jobs a goodun.

Good idea, I will do that as if they are same as rear liners then it'll be packed with mud :smirk:

Just had my skuttle panel off and cleaned out the compost. Interestingly, the electric cable that is routed through a grommet in your photo actually comes up through the drain hole to the wheel arch on mine instead, it's got clips and everything there so looks like it's factory standard but does seem a bit prone to clogging up because of this. Mines a 2002 Octavia estate laurin and klement edition.

The cable in the drain hole is a standard fitment, the cable in mbames grommet is for the 12s towing electrics

just an add-on..removed my scuttle panel few mins ago. I used a palet knife(baking utensil) basically strong but very malable. started at the very outside and pried the panel up from the top just enough to get finger tips slightly under it and then worked across into the middle popping it up from the sill it sits in as I went. came out surprisingly easy compared to the wiper arms which I had to get a bearing puller at! linkage coming off now:/

Actually that was the cable from my radar/laser detector unit :-)

The wipers certainly do seem to get stuck onto the spines quite well!
