What type of servicing would you recommend for me?

Featured Replies

Been toying with a few thoughts, but can someone recommend a servicing type.

Mine was on Variable from new (according to manual) then it has gone onto fixed (looking at service card) I only do about 6K a year and it is parked up most of the week, i am thinking i would be better to go back to variable. What do you think?

I am going to phone the dealer i bought it from tomorrow as it was servived in July 14500 miles, and it says in the book it is due in jan for another, well it only has 15600 on now, surely that wont be needed??

I think VW suggest just local town driving then fixed service, and lots of miles driving then variable (basic premise). However, mine has 12k on the clock after 20 months, and its staying on variable which means so far it hasnt been into the dealer at all yet.

Mine had its first (variable) service at 2 years and 9263 miles. Did the dealer use LongLife oil when your car was last serviced? If not, wait until the next service is due then get the car put back on variable servicing.

I was always under the impression that once a car was filled with "normal" (i.e. non longlife oil) it was stuck on fixed servicing for good ?

thats also what I thought.

looks like it can be put back on variable....

There's a couple of major differences though...

1) This is a Skoda, not a VW. Same group, but different procedures. I'd want confirmation from Skoda UK, Not VW UK

2) The Octavia RS is set to variable by default and is factory filled with longlife Oil. That letter states that VW's are set to "extended" (conventional oil) by default....but it's more than possible it came filled with Longlife Oil. As the car in the letter is due for a service at 10,000 miles, then it probably still has it's factory oil in the sump...

I will post back with what reply i get from my dealer tomorrow. I can't seem to see where they got the next service due in my book??? Looks like they just picked 6 months later. Hopefully they can enlighten me.
