rotar arm on 1997 felicia glxi

Featured Replies

I need to replace the old rotor arm on my girlfriends felicia glxi but i am finding it very difficult to remove the old one.

I assumed it should just llft off as I can see no retaining screws?

I'd be very grateful for any advice at all or a step by step guide.

Thanks

As far as I am aware, they just pull off, they pay be a tight fit so it could take some effort. I had to pull quite hard to get the one off my 96 felly. I think i ended up using a screw driver to try and lever it off (it did break though so make sure you have the new one ready)

Yeah, as Skoda Dragon says, they can be really tight - usually they will pull straight off by hand, but I've had a couple which were really difficult, one led to the end of the rotor arm in the process. Make sure that you don't damage the distributor in the process, remember that the rotor arm is sacrificial!

Thanks, I thought that but it's so tight I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some screw or clip that was holding it on.

I know some old VW rotor arms where glued on. You might find that a previous owner added some glue to secure the arm on refitting in the past.

I think the metal insert on the rotor arm can cause bi-metallic corrosion and they seize to the distributor. Get a finger underneath each protrusion and give it a firm pull upwards. I did this with mine and I am not sure if this broke the distributor drive gear (or if it had already had it), but it was a relatively easy job to replace it. You can use a little copper grease on the new one (on the inside bit where it fits).
