Blown clutch / flywheel

Featured Replies

Last night changing 4th to 5th about to pass an r32 ;) my clutch / flywheel disintegrated

2 or 3 metal particles came flying off the car, cars also leaking oil from the box, limped 2 miles home sounds like a train

new box, clutch and flywheel??

oh dear mate, thats going to be expensive emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif ....

Ouch. Sorry to hear.

Sounds like new clutch, flywheel and bellhousing (if separate from gearbox case) anyway.

What would cause this!? My flywheel is rattling, only when it's cold temps though, and my clutch slips after having the map. I was under the impression it'd never go 'bang' so to speak, but is it possible?

Well there is a rivet that could have gone or I guess a DMF could have gone.

Both would have been enough to send bits of metal into and possibly through the gearbox casing at high revs.

Flywheel has rattled for quite some time, revs were around 5k lol

am just gona save

new box

spec stage 3+ clutch

smf

quaiffe diff

might as well do it right

3k's worth + labour... :peek:

Aye if you go to jabba

clutch and smf 900 ish parts

gearbox 300

then i can get it fitted for 100 tops :8

not too bad

Are you sure it was the clutch and DMF that failed. The box has a riveted crown wheel, and they can fail, punching a hole through the gearbox.

Indeed, talking of which how often do these fail and how easy are they to have inspected and replaced at clutch change time if required.

Well previosly the clutch never ever slipped but the dmf rattled its nuts off it was like a train

now fifth gear is unselectable the noise is mental and bite is all over the place??

Whatever the story i know im going to need a new box clutch and fly :(

They don't fail often, and usually only if the car is sticking out crazy power. It's a gearbox out and total strip down to check them. Kit available that replaces the rivets with high tensile steel nuts and bolts.

mine wasn't slipping, but gear selection was patchy (at best), it did make the odd weird (metallic?) noise and bite too was all over the place at times. allytech has a picture of the friction plate that he took out yesterday... :S you can get a Helix kit (including SMF) for not too much money

lsd diff?

rude not to :D

lsd diff?

Optional ;) if i go diff too it will work just over 2 k

revs were around 5k lol

5k? :o surly the internals of the engine are not designed to rev that fast? :o

gutted buddy, what power r u running? were u on a standard clutch thing ur running the same set up as me

Edited by felix_19

By the time you add the vat, and take off our 5% jabba discount, they come in at around £50 difference for either that or the sachs

Matt

Helix ftw!!

They dont put em in all the rally cars for nothing ;)
