Head Unit Woes

Featured Replies

The standard symphony unit is coing out..... and im NOT replacing it....

When i bought my car back in August '08 it came with a CD stuck in the slot and Skoda replaced the head unit under warranty... al was ok untl recently when CDs were being difficult to remove from the unit.... tonight came the last straw.... i tried to eject a pre recorded cd (ie not a cdr) it jammed in again and after half an hour the cd came out and now the unit is just showing error on the display.... so im gonna get the dealer to take it out and im not gonna put a new unit in, as i do not want an aftermarket head unit (had one in for a while and it spoiled the look) in stead im gonna see if the drawer will fit and have no sounds in my car

Get a Connects2 interface and run an MP3 player. Massive choice of music and no CD's laying about cluttering up the car!

No sounds :o

I have an aftermarkrt Sony Xplod and it's a wicked little stereo.

It doesn't spoil the look at all and actually matches the dash colour n mine.

It illuminates in a green that matches the other dash controls.

I run a small 2gb battery powered sony mp3 player into the usb on the front

of the unit... And I can take the face off when I leave the car.

Have a butchers....

I have had a look and none of the current Aftermarket head units look right in my eyes.... they are mostly too flash looking or the buttons too small

Linkin Park playing is that?

To the OP - search for a firm called Becker. They do aftermarket headunits that look very OEM (see below):

Linkin Park playing is that?

Yep. One of my favourite albums to drum along with actually...

I've seen those Becker units somewhere too.

If it's dull and ordinary looking you're after they are a good choice as

the actual stereos aren't bad at all. But I doubt they'd attract too many magpies...

where do you get the drawer bit below the radio? Is it a skoda oem part?

Mine was given to me by the mighty Apogee,

In return I made a donation to the cancer appeal we had on at work at the time.

He wouldn't take any money from me...

It is a Skoda OEM part found in the higher specced non vRS Fabias (elegance I think...)

The drawer was standard clobber on the elegance model if i remember correctly... I bought mine off a guy on the forums (I forget who!)

Skoda spares have them I think and is occasionally some on egay

Its a tight fit some some stereos, mine doesn't open fully itself you have to pull it lol

edit: beaten to it! :p

THe Becker does look oem but at nearly £300 it is just a bit on the expensive side....

You're not wrong there mate.. Along with all the gubbins from my parrot and stereo.

I also went mad and blew 30 odd quid or something silly like that on the cup holder thingy too.

Even worse with one of those in.. I have to pull them both the last little bit to use them properly...

But... REALLY handy for the mp3 player... It just used to launch itself off of the shelf that was there originally

whenever I drove "briskly"... ;)

The shelf is a joke... had one in previous cars and stuff always stayed put, in the fabia i had stuff flying out of there all the time! The 20-30 notes on the drawer was well justified B)

i need one of these drawers! can anyone "hook" me up?!

see if you can get the unit replaced by them or a cheap one from somewhere, you will soon get bored with no tunes. at mentioned earlier the connects2 units are great and you have no wires, but just dont buy an aftermarket player, they look poo imo no offence intended. having said that the becker ones look sswweeeeeett

How far out of warranty is the car? Good will gesture needed from SUKemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Should you not get a 2 year guarantee on replacement parts fitted by the dealers?
