Snow Foam - I know this is a silly q but.........

Featured Replies

Hi

I know this is going to be a stupid question but..............

Smog Monster mentioned the other day about this snow foam stuff and I looked into buying this but it mentioned I needed the lance, I don't really have the spare cash to spend 50/60 odd quid on a lance to go on my pressure washer and my washer is so old and gives me vibration white finger so I tend not to use it just the old fashioned hose so would need a new one, do I actually need it or could i just get away without it?

Thanks for any info

Tony

You need to buy a lance so you get the correct ratio and mix of snow foam with the water, cant just use a normal hose you need a jet wash, its well worth saving up for one though makes a difference when you come to clean your car though

Right money and a little more robust !

To be honest it is best to to invest in a Snow Foam Lance as it makes the job so much easier!

Save your pennies, it's only for heavily soiled cars. Just wash weekly during the summer, add a squirt of quick detailer and an MF cloth every 2nd morning (takes less than 2 mins to nip round the car doing only the bits where you can see dust / muck) and don't let your car get manky

It's little / no benefit for cars washed weekly.

I TOTALLY disagree with your comments.

Its NOT just for 'heavily soiled' cars at all.

I use mine at every wash, even light dirt..It saves touching the car , ensuring that all particles are removed..the way to reduce/eliminate swirls.

Then wash normally or simply dry it with a MF towel

I would never use QD on a 'dry' car either.

Your call ...Its your car.......but please dont advocate this to others as IMO its flawed advice.

Thanks for the comments guys, I think i'll invest in a new pressure washer and then maybe the lance thing at a later date!

The snow form does look very tempting , even if without the lance its not perfect but they :) I have ordered some Autobrite snow form off ebay and will get pressure washer! wonder if it makes a diff we will soon see!

You wont get the "foaming" effect without the lance really.. I tried it recently and was disappointed..

Save up and get a lance.. I am getting one when my vRS arrives.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Just rinse the car first then use the 2 bucket method with a decent (lambs wool) wash mitt and this will be fine. :)

It is never good advice to tell someone to rub dust into their paintwork..emoticon-0145-shake.gif

hehe nps mate ;):)

Foam lance is only way to go if you want a good thick foam, the karcher foam gun (about £15) and pressure washer inbuilt detergent tanks are a complete waste of time in comparison. Expensive but worth it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I find snow foam excellent for removing nasty gritty dirt before a proper wash (if the car is covered in it) or good for a quick touchless wash when you have little time.

It's not a perfect clean, but it's pretty good :)

has no-one suggested a Gilmore to this guy? an attachment for your hose. Doesn't give results as thick as a PW and a lance, but does a good job

  • Author

whats a gilmore?

I got a thing free with pressure washer that was the bottle and a nozzel thing that attaches to pressure washer seems to do a good job !

whats a gilmore?

Similar to a snow foam lance only it works from your garden hose.

I hear you need very good water pressure for these to work properly.

Hence

Go the pressure washer/foam lance route
