Track rods...

Featured Replies

I had the car jacked up swapping the wheels over for a puncture and noticed if I hold the wheel at quarter to three position and push and pull on each side in turn I get a bit of a knocking noise.

I have new bushes in the console and the lower arm shows very very little movement. However the steering arm is moving in and out slightly and the knocking noise is coming from under the car in the middle somewhere.

Is this just normal play, is the rack worn or could it be track rod ends (inner / outer)? Car passed its MOT a couple of weeks ago and thinking about it there has been a bit of a knock occasionally over rough road surfaces recently! Just wondered if anyone else had seen the same issue?

If it is the inner track rod ends can they be replaced or is it a new rack :( ?

Firstly, the track rod inner bearigs can be replaced independently.

Secondly, the knock you refer to is almost certainly arb drop links, about £30 for the pair, less than an hour to change, doddle.

I have the drop links and arb bushes on order just should be delivered tomorrow :)

Good to hear the inner rods can be replaced if they are indeed broked
