I see OPIE OILS have a promotion on MAHLE filters, I did not realise they sold MAHLE till i got a email off them,best filters i have used.

I would say that experience and reputation counts for a lot, They make filters for the VAG group and they are manufactured in Austria, not China.

I spent a long time with one of my previous employers sectioning and testing filters. You can't tell much by looking - other than identifying gross mechanical inadequacies but tests on a rig are most revealing. The damp element burst test was always a good one which sorted out the baddies.

Things are not always what they seem (although I've not tested a Mahle) - some of the crappiest fuel filters are sold as VAG OE.

Did you test Mann ones Roto, and if so how did they stand up?

I did. They're amongst the best - I use them. Bosch filters are generally badge engineered versions of these.

Do you remember a German make of filters called KNECKT,not sure about the spelling,They were taken over by MAHLE.
