Rear Washer 'Collapsed'

Featured Replies

I took my vRS into my local dealers yesterday to have it serviced and have the rear washer nozzle replaced which had disappeared over the winter. I told them in advance about the washer since I've had problems in the past since they only stock 'serviceable items'. However, when I went to pick it up they said that they had had to order parts since the washer had 'collapsed internally'. Since the washer works (apart the fact it squirts straight backwards) should I believe them (and if so, what are they talking about)? Or are they simply covering the fact that they hadn't order the part before?

The washer pipe can seize inside the wiper arm, never heard of one collapsing though.

Maybe they mean it's got all rusty? What exactly have they ordered as there's a repair kit for that and it's much cheaper then a new arm mechanism.

I read a post not so long ago about someone who had the rear squirt going straight out backwards.. I may have mis understood but it sounded like they just bought a new nozzle / insert???

You want to order service kit: 8L0 0998 711 for Golf Mk4 and Fabia Mk1. Cost is about £35, which is a LOT cheaper than the £80 plus they wnat for a new motor and mech.

The kit included a new nozzle, hollow spindle for the wash to go through, and a new splined shaft for the wiper which has a gear attached inside the mechanism. The kit also includes the grease and required o-rings to complete the job properly.

Mine is knackered at the moment and I've ordered the repair kit so hopefully will be fitting it on Friday. Fingers crossed it sorts it out :)

Thought i would update this - I bought the repair kit from a VW/Seat dealer in Sheffield (part# 8L0998711) for £33.93 inc vat. Its sorted the problem out completely, took about 10mins to completely rebuild and regrease the motor assembly, everything fitted as it should and it went back on very easily.

Probably the hardest thing about it was getting the rear boot trim back on again, that was fun ;)
