An update on GSMIII compatibility/incompatibility with handsets

Featured Replies

This is part of a saga I'm in from delivery of my Octy vRS back in April with GSMiii module. The vagaries of rSAP profile have been discussed in many threads, but I took it to Skoda because I have one of the Sony Ericsson phones listed as compatible in the brochure and it isn't.

Asking Skoda and sony yields nothing about the truth - it will depend on who you speak to. The bottom line is - none of the sony phones listed is compatible. Simple as that.

Skoda initally offered me £150 towards a new handset (e.g. Nokia) - but after some thought I rejected this as it didn't work for me. I then asked for a full refund (as entitled under sale of goods act) or, preferably an upgrade to GSMIII+ (which should have the bluetooth headset profile)

After some time and investigation of the status of GSMIII+ (they say still in testing and no firm delivery date, and of course no guarantee of what it's compatible with) Skoda got back to me yesterday to offer a full refund. (They will leave the delivered module in the car as is).

They've said I can continue to wait for GSMIII+ if i want but there is no committed date on that - it's been slipping.

A full refund and fitting of a Fiscon unit seems like a decent bet..

went to see Ben at Shark with my brother (sarge) at the weekend . He convinced me that fitting a GSMII was a better bet for me than the Fiscon as it was just a module swap with the same wiring - so only a 20 minute job.. He was right methinks :-) Very happy with the install - can live without text messaging.

I now have a GSMIII module up for grabs - any takers? :-)

I was hoping to test two video cameras side by side on the trip but I had a duff card in one. However, will follow that up in a separate thread.

I take it there also needed to be a quick tinker with VCDS?
