Vrs Engine oil

Featured Replies

I'm getting way confused with what oil to get for my mk1 octy vrs, i'm thinking of changing it every 5k to 6k and i don't want to spend a fortune on the stuff. Seen that halfrauds do their own 5w40 that is VW502.00/505.00 complient. Not sure if the Octy should have 5w30, Halfords do VW/Audi 504.00 and 507.00 complient 5w30 that is £8 more and is for variable service.

Would i be better off scrapping the frequent servicing and just use the more expensive stuff and service it every 10k?

Was much easier with the old banger just needed cheapo stuff in that lol

There's no strict rule/law where you can't service your car inside the correct time/mileage recommendation.

You could service your car every day in theory, rather expensive but quite possible.

If car has a fixed service ie 10,000 miles/12 months you can stick to that OR service it every 5,000miles, if you want.?

OIL' or 'INSP' warning lights could be reset as and when they appeared, by you !!

If the car had a variable service schedule, I'm guessing and don't really know, a similar approach could be still feasible. ??

I recently saw Comma PD fully synthetic 5W40 VW505.01 spec on sale at local motor factor for £23- £24.

I bought Quatum PD oil off E.bay recently for £23.75 with correct spec.

Halfords own brand with correct spec £36 and that is a recent price quote.

So many brands to choose from, I now buy the cheapest but always ensure correct spec written on side of container.

Recently someone on this site have quoted SKODA have officially released VW 507.00 as a direct replacement for VW 505.01.

I personally will keep buying the stated VW 505.01 spec whilst it's still available.

Check for the correct VW spec oil by quoting your registaration number to the seller, as vehicle will be registered.
