skoda warranty soon to expire

Featured Replies

my skoda warranty is soon to expire on my 2.0pd vrs, 57plate as it on 59800miles, was thinking of buying a extended warranty, are they worth it and are they any good ? which companys have a good/bad reputation ?

I have used these in the past and always been happy with the cover provided. I have not had one in a while but used to be around £200 a year which for me was worth it for the piece of mind it gave. Make sure you check the small print and find out what is included/excluded to ensure it covers what you want it too. Also check the claims limit as some policies will only pay out a certain amount per claim or per year. The only other thing you may have an issue with is the mileage of your car. A lot of these policies will only cover cars up to a certain age (5 to 8 years) and mileage (often only up to 80k or less). You may also find the cost goes up due to the mileage even if they do cover it.

If you've not had the Teves MK60 ESP module issue, turbo problems or coolant loss issues then you've been very lucky.............that luck might run out..........so in my book a warranty is well worth it. The Skoda one is around £300 for a year or £550 for two.

A lot of people that use this site will argue that a warranty is a waste of money and you could just put the £300 in the bank in case of a failure. But when the above three items can cost in excess of £1500 to fix I think that is perhaps a little foolish. Although, I am by nature, a cautious person - what would you expect of an Accountant !!

A warranty is just another insurance policy, 90% of the time it's money down the drain, but when the 10% strikes it's reassuring to know that your wallet isn't going to take a beating ! I have a Skoda policy and it has near enough paid for itself, when I had my front bushes replaced due to premature wear. The only significant exclusion is the catalytic convertor.

Oh, and the Skoda policy is unlimited claims (both number of and value of) and unlimited mileage - at least according to my policy documents.

Please beaware that the Skoda policy does not cover wiring

... air con compressor.

As a high mileage driver I alwasy cover my cars.

although I always seem to purchase cars that are used as taxis (renault, skoda, peugeot) I would not want a £500 bill for anything.

One thing that seems to have started is that dealerships will still charge for the inverstigation work.

For my wifes car I have used warrnaty works.

good luck.

i have warranty direct on my astra which i purchased, it costs me £18.33 a month, havent had to claim so dont know their claims are like, but the policy covers claims up to the value of the car, it also covers hire car for 7 days (max £50 a day) up to 7 nights hotel cover, travel home if required, mot failure repairs it also covers wear and tear parts but you have to pay a small percentage towards parts if over 60000 miles, they still pay 100% of labour, but miles between 60000-70000 you pay 10% of parts and 70-80k you have pay 20%, 80-90k you pay 30% 90-100k you pay 40%, and over 100k you pay 50%. this percentage bit is parts only and they pay 100% of labour charges up to £60 a hour no matter what the mileage of the car is, also request a call back from them rather than take their internet price as their internet price makes assumptions and their call centres (all UK) lowered my prices based on adjusting assumptions which werent possible to adjust online,

Last year when my 2006 Polo was approaching the end of the three year warranty period I did two things which saved me hundreds of pounds in repair costs, as repairs were carried out a couple of days before the warranty expired:

i) Dont know if Skoda dealers do this, but it is common for VW dealers to offer a free 50 point or something vehicle check which takes 30 mins, low and behold they found a few faults that needed to be fixed, all done under warranty, this way I got the car checked and repairs done for free

ii) Air conditioning had never been serviced from new, dealer offered special deal of £60 to refresh etc which I paid, but they also found a fault with the air condition which was again fixed under warranty

If I were you stick your car in for a check over before the warranty expires, it will give you a bit more piece of mind.

Cheers.

If it helps, I had a Warranty Direct policy for several years on. my previous Audi A6 Avant.

Long story short, the cover is superb as long as you know EXACTLY what your cover is and are willing to be stubborn if necessary. I paid for main dealer rates which did hit the pocket hard.

Over 3 years the policy cost me nearly £1,500 (sounds like loads) but it does include wear & tear cover.

Total repairs they paid out on exceeded £3,500 including CV gaiters, driveshaft, gearbox rebuild (CVT) and replacement, gearbox ECU replacement and upgraded the multi-plate cluch due to a "known" manufacture issue.

On the first claim there were major issues (lost the car for 3 to 4 weeks) as WD had not kept track of paperwork dates and tried the "wear & tear not covered in first 3 months" - "gearbox oil not changed by previous owner" - "not serviced in last 12 months" etc

Finally agreed based on the fact that I'd been with them for 5 months, gearbox oil was not a pre-requisite of the policy and variable service was not yet due.

After this first claim, the process was swift and simple! Every claim after that first one was handled direct with garage and claims accepted within an hour!

only had the car a couple of weeks, will be doing between 16-18k a year annual mileage, so perhaps it would be worthwhile getting the extra cover, dont want to be paying more than £300 though

any idea of how much ? how reliable is the 2.0pd engine that i have in my vrs ? {only had the car nearly 3 weeks and looooving it..} i know vw are pretty good, but is there anything that needs a 'special' lookout ? i had a cdti vauxhall vectra, and they were prone for swirl flaps, egr valves and dmfs, is the vrs prone to anything ??

I got a very good price 1 year ago, Skoda cover also includes the full Skoda Assist package as well which made it a very good deal, especially if you need full European cover.

I took mine out with warranty direct after reading this ABS Teves issue and recomendations about them, and less than a week later it failed. Its still being sorted, but thats due to a lazy garage that never phones me back, warranty direct were spot on, 'no problem just get the garage to contact us' type thing.

With anything though, make sure you read the fine print and understand what your whole cover includes.

I took a warranty out when I got mine last year after reading about the potential ABS ECU replacement cost.

I took one out with Tesco (who no longer do car warranties ;-) ) but its under written by car care plan.....

Not 100% certain on the cost, but it was less than £300. It has covered everything that has went wrong with the car and I wouldn't

like to think what the total they've shelled out on my PD140, but must be atleast £2.5k now !

I can't fault them on how they have dealt with any claims. All I've had to do is drop it at the garage and give them the warranty company

phone number !

I even managed to get an AC fan replaced without any problems even when it wasn't listed in my documentation as being covered !

Like others have said, watch what cover you are getting. I nearly opted for a polict that looked fantastic cover wise, but only covered

a year or 12K miles..... The Tesco/car care plan was 1yr unlimited.

With my experience over the past year, I wouldn't drive another modern car without having warranty cover. The bills can get out of control

very quickly.

just took out a warranty direct policy, £25 a month on a rolling monthly basis, warranty direct sound like a big company with good reviews, seems better than a skoda warranty, i can now breath a sigh of relief.....

did you take out online? i got a online quote then when they phoned me back they knocked almost £10 a month off, i'm also paying rolling monthly contract, although the terms say that you must take a minimum of 6 months cover, having got the terms book now, looks a very good policy! did you opt for the main dealer repair option, or network garage option? the network garage option covers up to £60 an hour labour, so i opted for that option, as includes nationwide autocentre, which i've used previously and always been happy with them!

got a quote online of £28 a month, so i rang them up, had a chat with them saying my skoda warranty had run out yesterday, because the car has now just done 60k, and i was very interested, keen, eager, etc, etc..... to take out a extended warranty, because they are a good company, good reviews, blah, blah, blah.... and they said if i take the policy out whilst on the phone, they could do it for £25 a month !! i thought i will have some of that..... Cheaper than the online quote and also cheaper than skodas warranty. ive opted for the network garage option, so all in all, im quite happy

they dropped me from an online quote of £26.92 to £18.33 but my cars done 40000 miles, and i do about 6000 miles a year maximum, but still want the security if something goes wrong i havent got to fork out hundreds having a baby due next week.

Not a Skoda warranty but one for my camper which cost £460. After 6 months i had the nearside drive shaft cause a wheel wobbling, sent to claims department and they said have you broke down, no i answered only the shaft is worn causing the steering wheel to vibrate, sorry only covered for breakdown, Sh--..Garage came to my aid and got it done but then found out the warranty would only cover labour for £34 !!!, where can you get that labour charge?.So i had to pay the balance as garage charge £54 per hr. What i did not say at begining of this was the garage did not know which driveshaft had gone until taking them out and warranty would not cover for dismantling as well so had to pay for other driveshaft labour. This well known company i would never go to again. My original Skoda one for the Octavia was first class with no problems for work done.

i bought the 2 year extended warranty when i reached 60000ml. not cheap; i think it was about £500 for the two years. pleased i did though as the a/c compressor and cruise switch failed about 2 months later

I am with warranty direct too, £22.50 a month for dealer fix.As other people have posted if you speak on phone you can knock them down.Wish i had taken it out BEFORE my Teeves 60 ABS unit failed

  • 4 months later...

never claimed on extended warranty but did try to claim on manufacturers one.local midlands dealer was crap, gave me a load of bull .when i complained to skoda uk it became clear that the dealers seperate franchises which look after themselves not skoda customer. skoda uk seem to have no control over what dealers do.my experience is if you try and claim under warranty you will be resisted and will need to go to court .like the car but would not deal with skoda or any of their dealers ever again, cant see extended warranty being any different.

just sorted one from warranty direct for 240 for 1 year ' extra care '... was getting worried about turbo and all the gear - peace of mind...

best to call and haggle..
